Typus. Campanula incurva Aucher in DC., Prodr. 7:464(1839).1)
Campanula incurva resembles some species of sect. Quinqueloculares in habit and may related to this possibly artificial group. This rather isolated species may have evolved by reduction of the chromosome number from species with a diploid number of 34 chromosomes (in Campanula incurva 2n = 32!).2)

Lower leaves ovate-oblong to reniform, cordate at base, crenate to serrate, upper leaves more usually ovate, narrowed basally to winged petioles.Flores erecti, magni, ad 3.5(-6)cm. longi. Calyx appendiculatus. Appendices calycis post anthesin valde accretae, capsulum obtectae. Stigmata tria.5)
Flower measuring, between 40 - 50mm (1 1/2 - 2 in.)6)
Flowers erect, axillary near the ends of brs., calyx with large, triangular appendages, corolla white to pale violet, to 2 in. long, campanulate.
Capsula erecta, trilocularis poris basalibus dehiscens. Semina plana, brunnea.7)
