Alpina Research

Alpina Research is a non-profit organization, started in 1975, serving Botanical Gardens at that time. In 1980, the first bulletins and seed lists were published and sent to members at large. Since then, 12 issues have been published. Modest at the beginning, the 1983 annual seedlist contains 36 pages of choice items that would interest serious gardeners. The list offers seed of alpine or rock garden plants, native or woodland plants, ferns, orchids, etc., along with a brief description of the item. Every year, four additional issues are sent to members, each providing a supplement to the annual seed list, articles from members, drawings, reports on how to grow plants, etc. On request, other services are supplied: want lists of members, identification of plants, information, and special Alpina Research lists, each on a particular genus. These special lists are very popular as each list attempts to be a complete listing of all known species with descriptons along with the availability of seed at Alpina Research in exchange.

One year membership entitles the subscriber to: - the annual seed list plus 4 supplemental bulletins - 10 free items with the paid subscription - order seed at only 40dc a packet, your choice, with no substitutions.

By spring 1983, 314 members have subscribed. Letters of testimony are received every week concerning many facets of the operation: rapidity of germination, quality and quntity of seed, trueness to name, prompt delivery, etc.

To subscribe, send 10dollar (USA only). Overseas: 15 US dollar.
